Ryukyu no Mingei

(The Mingei of Okinawa)
1939, (5 minutes)
Produced by the Japan Folk Crafts Museum

The arts and crafts of Okinawa were highly regarded by Yanagi Soetsu and the founding members of the Mingei Movement. In 1939 they travelled to Okinawa where they produced two films, one on arts and crafts, and one on the history and scenery of Okinawa.

This film is a very important first view of pottery-making in Okinawa.
